Schoolcraft Takes Control of NJCAA D1 Women's Soccer Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 8, 2008) -- Schoolcraft College (Mich.) ends Iowa Western Community College's four week reign on the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer rankings, taking the No. 1 post this week for the first time this season. Schoolcraft is followed in the rankings by Darton College (Ga.) and Navarro College (Texas).
Former No 1 Iowa Western falls eight spots to No. 9 this week due to a 1-0 loss to No. 6 Laramie County Community College (Wyo.) and a 1-1 tie to Northwest College (Wyo.) last week.
After four weeks at No. 2, Schoolcraft takes over the top spot in the rankings with a 7-0-2 overall record (4-0 vs. DI teams). Their most recent victory came against University of M Dearborn, 2-0, last Sunday. They next face Cincinnati State Technical & CC on Oct. 11 and then travel to No. 7 Polk Community College (Fla.) on Oct. 17.
Schoolcraft goalkeeper Kristin Dondzila ranks second in the nation with a 0.20 goals against average, while Clare Baptist leads the Ocelots with 14 offensive points (six goals, two assists).

Baptist Leads Schoolcraft to Soggy 2-1 Win |

 Plymouth alum Clare Baptist scored a goal and assisted on the other Saturday as host Schoolcraft earned a 2-0 women's soccer victory over University of Michigan-Dearborn club team.
The non-conference match was played in driving rain and slippery field conditions, but the Lady Ocelots prevailed.
"The first goal was beautiful with five players getting involved all the way from the back," noted Schoolcraft head coach Deepak Shivraman, whose team improved to 4-0 overall. "(The Wolves) came with a tougher stance in the second half and we responded well by creating good opportunities."
Baptist's goal was set up by freshman midfielder Nicole Trivax (Walled Lake Western) and the sophomore forward, in turn, assisted on Schoolcraft's second tally by freshman midfielder Andrea Polite.
Shivraman credited the strong play of sophomore Samantha Harrington, usually a midfielder-forward who moved back to defense for sophomore Sally L'Esperance, who was out of town to attend a family function.
The coach also said freshman Kristin DeClercq "stepped up in the stopper position and plugged up" the Wolves' offense. |

Schoolcraft Women Post Two Shutouts |

 Schoolcraft College's women's soccer team rolled to a pair of shutout victories last weekend at Elgin (Ill.) College.
On Friday, the Lady Ocelots (3-0-0) blanked host Elgin, 5-0, and followed that up with a 3-0 whitewashing Saturday of DuPage College (Ill.).
Sharing the shutouts were goalkeepers Kristen Dondzila and Ashley Chandler.
"I felt that every player worked very hard," Schoolcraft coach Deepak Shivraman said. "The score line may seem like the games were easy with light opponents, but in reality, our work-rate, conditioning and skills really fell into place."
Against Elgin, Clare Baptist (Plymouth) was the offensive catalyst. She scored two goals and added an assist.
Other goals were netted by Kristin DeClerq (from Samantha Harrington), Andrea Polite (from Baptist) and Katie Shull (from Brittany Pickett). Picking up helpers on Baptist's goals were Katie Shull (Salem) and Stephanie Gutowski (Livonia Stevenson).
The next day it was more of the same, with Baptist opening the scoring on a feed from Gutowski and finishing it off (on an assist from Polite). Tara Pietila also drew an assist. |

SC, MU Women Battle to Draw in Scrimmage |

The annual women's soccer match between Madonna and Schoolcraft finished in a 1-1 deadlock Wednesday at Greenmead Field in Livonia.
Schoolcraft alumnus Jessica Austin got the Crusaders on the board with a goal during the first half, putting a shot behind Lady Ocelots' starting goalkeeper Kristen Donzilla.
With just 1:03 left in the match, the Lady Ocelots tied it when Clare Baptist set up Dena Sana, who made no mistake.
"I thought our players kept fighting and were relentless even with minutes left in the game," said Schoolcraft head coach Deepak Shivraman. "We have a lot of respect for Madonna and being crosstown rivals, we really look forward to this game every year."
Schoolcraft outshot Madonna 13-8 in the physical, hard-fought contest.
Both Donzilla and Ashley Chandler, who each played a half in goal for Schoolcraft, were strong in stopping Madonna's offense, Shivraman added. |
